What we check when we scrub a Fox Valley business website

What a free website check covers for Appleton and Fox Valley businesses: Maps, the Google profile, the site, content, and search.

A website can look fine on your phone and still be hard to find for the people who would hire you. We see that with Appleton and Fox Valley businesses often. The site is up. The Google listing exists. The phone number is real. The calls are still quiet, and the reason is not sitting on the surface.

NobleWorks has a free website check called Scrub. You enter your site, your business name, your email, and your phone. In about a minute you get a scored report. It covers five areas: Google Maps, your Google Business Profile, website basics, content and trust, and social and AI search. If you have been looking for a website check, or for a Google Business Profile audit, this is that work in one pass, and it is free.

Below is the same list in plain language. What we look at, why it matters for a local business, and the misses we keep seeing.

Google Maps

Maps is where a lot of local searches stop. Someone in Appleton types the work they need. A short list comes up with pins, hours, and a way to call. If your facts do not line up, you are easier to pass over.

The name on the listing, the address, and the hours should match the website. A pin on the wrong block is a common miss. So is a business that never appears for the searches its customers actually type. The check is simple. Can a person nearby find you, and does the map tell the same story as the site? If Maps sends someone to the wrong address, they call the next name.

Google Business Profile

The profile is the panel beside the map. People read it before they ever open your website. Hours, services, photos, and the link to your site all sit in that panel. A Google Business Profile audit, done without fluff, starts with one question: does this panel describe the business you run?

A common miss is a profile that has the business name and then almost nothing else. The services are not listed. You might do screen printing, embroidery, and a dozen other jobs every week, and the profile never says so. Another miss is on the website itself: no link to the Google profile. A visitor who wants the hours and the reviews has to go search for you again.

For a Fox Valley business, that profile is part of the front door. It is the version of you that shows up when someone is ready to call and has not decided to visit the site yet.

Website basics

The site should make the next step obvious. A phone number. An address. Hours. A way to reach a person.

One miss we see a lot: the hours are written on the page, and they are missing from the code Google reads. The line on the screen can say Monday to Saturday, 6:30am to 8pm. A person can read it. Google still has no hours it can use, because that line never made it into the code. Another miss is the missing link the other way, from the site to your Google profile, so the two never point at each other.

Page titles belong in this pass too. A title that only says Home does not tell a customer, or Google, what you do or where you are. Appleton, WI, or Fox Valley, belongs where a local customer would look for it.

If the page and the code disagree, the hours a customer can read are not the hours Google has.

Content and trust

Thin service pages are the usual miss here. A heading and two sentences do not tell a Fox Valley customer what is included, what to send you, or how to call. They also give Google very little to connect to a search.

Trust is specific. Who you are. Where you work. What you take on. How to reach you. Real photos of real jobs help when you have them. A page that could belong to any business in any town is too thin. Local customers compare you with a few other names. The page that answers the practical questions is the one that gets the call.

Social and AI search

People check more than one place before they call. A social profile that never names the city, or never says what the business does, makes you harder to confirm. Someone sees a hat, or a truck, or a post, and still cannot tell if you are the Appleton business they just found on Maps.

AI search is the same problem in a newer place. Some tools answer a question with a short summary taken from public pages. If your services, hours, and city are hard to find, that summary can leave you out. We look at whether the public pages agree. The website, the Google profile, and the social profiles should describe the same business in the same town.

Great experience overall. I brought in a few of my own designs and they also helped create one from scratch, and everything turned out exactly how I hoped. They were upfront about timing, kept me in the loop, and delivered when they said they would. Pricing was actually better than the big online companies, and it felt good supporting a local business instead. I’ll definitely be coming back for future projects.
