Custom hat patches look simple when theyre done right. The difference is usually in the settings and the small steps between laser and heat press.

Design clean in Photoshop
We design the patch artwork in Adobe Photoshop first. Keep edges clean and contrast solid so the laser has a clear path to follow. Soft or muddy art usually shows up as a soft or muddy patch.
Set up, engrave, and cut in xTool Studio
We bring the file into xTool Studio on the xTool P3 for setup, engraving, and cutting.
Engrave (Hydbond leatherette):
Power: 18
- Speed: 325 mm/s
- LPI: 120
Cut:
Speed: 45 mm/s
- Power: 75
- Passes: 2
Those cut settings give a clean vector cut-out without chewing the material. Dial them in once, write them down, and stay consistent job to job.
Clean the soot before you press
Laser work leaves soot. Before any hat goes on the press, we spray the patches with LA Totally Awesome, then wipe with a microfiber rag. That step matters — soot under the press can dirty the patch face and the hat.
Press on the Hottronix 360 IQ
We press Hydbond leatherette hat patches on a Hottronix 360 IQ:
- Top heat: 290
- Bottom heat: 320
- Pressure: 7
- Time: 45 seconds
Let the patch cool before you flex or ship the hat. Rushing that last bit undoes careful laser work.
