AI Search Optimization (GEO & AIO) for Fox Valley Businesses

AI Search Optimization (GEO & AIO) for Fox Valley Businesses

AI Search Optimization (GEO & AIO) for Fox Valley Businesses

Help ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews find, understand and name your Fox Valley business when customers ask.

Call 920-963-5474

More of your customers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google a plain question like "who can fix my furnace in Appleton?" They get back one short answer with a few businesses named. If yours isn't one of them, that customer may never see your website.

AI search optimization helps these tools understand what you do, where you do it, and why people trust you, so your business has a fair shot at being named.

What AEO, GEO and AIO mean, in plain words

You'll hear three short terms for close to the same job:

  • AEO (answer engine optimization): shaping your business info so tools that hand back one answer, like Google's answer boxes and voice assistants, can use it.

  • GEO (generative engine optimization): the same idea for AI chat tools that write a fresh answer each time, like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. The "G" here isn't geography, but for a local business the two go hand in hand.

  • AIO (AI optimization): a catch-all many people use for all of it, including Google AI Overviews, the AI summary that shows at the top of many Google searches.

You don't need to keep the letters straight. The goal is the same: when someone asks an AI tool a question your business can answer, the tool should know you exist, what you do and where, and have good reasons to mention you.

How AI tools pick which local businesses to name

None of these companies publish the full recipe, and each tool works a little differently. The general picture is well known:

  • They look things up. For local questions, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews usually search the web at the moment you ask instead of relying only on what they learned in training. Perplexity lists the pages it used, and ChatGPT often does too.

  • Google's own data counts for Google's tools. AI Overviews and Gemini can draw on Google Search and on Google Business Profile and Maps details like your category, hours, service area and reviews.

  • Matching details earn trust. When your name, address, phone number and services read the same on your website, Google, Bing, Apple Maps, Facebook and local directories, a tool can be more confident it has the right business.

  • Clear pages are easier to quote. A page that says plainly what you do, where, and for whom, and answers common questions in a sentence or two, is easier for an AI tool to use than a page of slogans.

  • Reviews and outside mentions back it up. What customers say in reviews, and mentions on sites like your chamber of commerce or local news, give the tool more than your own word to go on.

  • Structured data removes guesswork. Schema code (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ) tells search engines in a fixed format who you are, where you are and what you offer.

No one can honestly promise a certain AI tool will name your business. Answers change from day to day and person to person. What we can do is make sure every source these tools read tells the same clear, true story.

What we do, step by step

  1. Check where you stand. We ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google the questions your customers would ask, and note who gets named and which sources show up. We also review your website, Google Business Profile and main listings.

  2. Match your business details everywhere. Name, address, phone, hours, website and services, the same on your site, Google, Bing, Apple Maps, Facebook and the directories that matter for your trade. This overlaps with our local citation cleanup.

  3. Tune your Google Business Profile. Right categories, services, service area, description and photos. See Google Business Profile optimization.

  4. Add structured data. LocalBusiness schema on your site with your real address, phone, hours and service area, plus Service schema for your main services and FAQ schema where it fits.

  5. Set up an llms.txt file. A plain text file on your site that lists your main pages and what each covers. It's a newer, optional standard that not every AI tool reads yet, so we treat it as a low-cost extra, not the main fix.

  6. Write FAQ answers the way people actually ask. We pull real questions from your calls, emails and reviews, and answer each one in plain words in the first sentence or two.

  7. Back it up with reviews and service-area pages. A steady, honest way to ask happy customers for reviews (our review generation system) and clear pages for the towns you serve (service-area SEO pages), so the tools find proof in more than one place.

  8. Recheck and adjust. We ask the same questions again later, see what changed, and fix what's still off.

Who this is for

Fox Valley businesses that get work from people searching nearby: contractors and trades, lawn care, detailers, salons, restaurants, retail stores and professional offices in Appleton, Oshkosh, Green Bay and the towns in between. It's a good fit if customers already say "I found you on Google," or if a competitor keeps getting named first.

How it ties in with local SEO and Google Business Profile

AI search optimization isn't a separate world. It sits on the same basics as local SEO and Google visibility: a clear website, a complete Google Business Profile, matching listings and real reviews. When those are solid, AI tools have good material to work from. When they're messy, no AI trick fixes it.

That's why we usually pair this work with a local SEO strategy and your Google Business Profile. It's also why town pages matter, like our own pages for Appleton and Oshkosh. For more background, read SEO and AI search in 2026.

What you can check today

A quick self-check:

  • Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity: "Who does [your service] in [your town]?" Write down who gets named and which sites they cite.

  • Search your business name on Google. Is your Business Profile complete, with the right category, hours, service area and recent photos?

  • Compare your name, address and phone on your website, Google, Facebook, Bing and Apple Maps. Do they match exactly?

  • Does your homepage say, in the first few lines, what you do and which towns you serve?

  • Do you have a page or section that answers the questions customers ask most?

  • Have you gotten a new Google review in the last month, and have you replied to your recent ones?

  • Add /llms.txt to the end of your website address. An error page means you don't have one yet.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI search optimization?

It's the work of making your business easy for AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews to find, understand and trust, so they have good reason to name you when someone asks for a local business like yours.

Is GEO the same as local SEO?

No, but they overlap a lot. Local SEO helps you show up in Google search and Maps. GEO helps you show up in AI-written answers. Both depend on clear pages, a complete Google Business Profile, matching listings and real reviews, so we work on them together.

Will ChatGPT or Google definitely mention my business?

No. Nobody can honestly promise that. AI answers change by the day, the question and the person asking. We make sure every source these tools read tells a clear, accurate and matching story about your business, which gives you a fair shot.

What is an llms.txt file, and do I need one?

It's a plain text file on your website that lists your main pages and what each one covers, written for AI tools to read. It's a newer, optional standard and not every tool uses it yet. It's quick to set up, so we include it, but matching details, structured data and reviews matter more.

How long before I see a change?

It depends on where you start and how often each tool refreshes what it knows. Fixes to your listings and Google Business Profile are often picked up sooner, while reviews and new pages add up over months. We recheck the same questions so you can see what changed.

Do I need a new website for this?

Usually not. Most of the work happens on your current site, your Google Business Profile and your listings. If your site needs work, we'll tell you plainly.

How much does it cost?

It depends on how much cleanup your listings, profile and pages need. We look at where you stand first, then give you a clear quote. Call 920-963-5474 to talk it through.

Great experience overall. I brought in a few of my own designs and they also helped create one from scratch, and everything turned out exactly how I hoped. They were upfront about timing, kept me in the loop, and delivered when they said they would. Pricing was actually better than the big online companies, and it felt good supporting a local business instead. I’ll definitely be coming back for future projects.
